NERO – Neurosurgical Robot research development project has started

On October 1st 2017, the NERO – Neurosurgical Robot research development project began. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund from the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020. The total value of the project is 21 million HRK and will last for 48 months. NERO brings together a unique interdisciplinary team of more than 30 scientists and researchers from INETEC, FSB and Clinical Hospital Dubrava. The project manager is Inetec, led by dr. sc. Ante Bakić. The aim of the NERO project is development of an innovative robotized stereotactic framework with application in neurosurgery.

In the first two years of the project, the concept of innovative neurosurgical robot will be developed and tested, in the third year of the project preclinical trials are planned at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, following by the last year's clinical trials at Dubrava University Hospital. In the development of the Croatian neurosurgical robot, the team from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture is led by roboticist prof. dr. sc. Bojan Jerbić, and the team of Dubrava University Hospital specialist neurosurgeon prof. dr. sc. Darko Chudy.
